I received this endorsement today and have to say how humbled I am! An endorsement like this from someone local who actually lives here and that I met just two short years ago is so important and telling. Thank you for the kind words, Stina!

Many of you may know that I’ve recently become heavily involved in local politics. This means I have got to know many of the candidates in your voter pamphlet on a personal level.

Our ballots will drop in a few days and our LOCAL politicians and their policies actually affect our daily life a lot more than our federal candidates, especially the commissioner race. The primary election is extremely important because it determines which candidate will move forward to the general. So please vote!

Today I want to share about my friend Tim Hazelo who is running for commissioner in Island County. We have worked closely together for a couple years and I have gained a great amount of respect for him for many reasons.

One thing I’ve learned about politics is “who you are in your personal life is exactly who you will be in your political life.” And this has become my North Star. Most jobs, it doesn’t matter much who you are at home because it doesn’t effect your work life but politics is the exception to that rule.

Consistency in upstanding character no matter the audience or environment has become my number one priority in choosing a candidate because that will be the foundation of everything they do.

Across the aisle, one of the greatest concerns of voters today is a lack of trust in Government. We must elect people we can trust who aren’t career politicians working their way up the ladder. We must elect people who simply want to do the right thing for the right reason.

I trust Tim as a close friend as well as someone who can lead us to a better place. Tim currently serves our country, is a husband, a farmer, and father, and is daily involved in his grandkid's life. He is one of the hardest-working people I’ve met and literally never stops. He is someone I can call anytime and he is there. Tim has served his country his whole life with passion and honor. He has volunteered his time for veterans, youth, Habitat for humanity, and more. He has taken homeless into his home in effort to give them a hand up, not a handout. He has experienced the loss of a child and yet continues to see great opportunity in life and finds the motivation to make a positive impact to those around him. He believes in personal responsibility and yet also has empathy. He wants to lower our taxes and raise our quality of life. He wants more safety, greater accountability, and transparency with our tax dollars. He is an open book and will answer your phone call or sit down for coffee with you. Take him up on that!
